The American Association of University Women was founded in 1881 based on the belief that a college education is as much a necessity for women as for men. With a current national membership of about 100,000 members, AAUW is a continuing catalyst for change and promotes equity for all women and girls through education, advocacy, and research. Education grants have been awarded to more than 7,000 students in 110 countries, with a total $4 million awarded annually. AAUW membership is open to graduates who hold an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university or a degree from a recognized foreign institution. You are welcome to call 910-295-2871 for more membership information.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization for men and women that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Any citizen over the age of 18 may become a voting member of the League and can work on local, state, regional and national program issues. Sponsorship of the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series is one of the many ways we promote education on issues which are important to citizens. The League truly exemplifies the motto: “Making Democracy Work.”
The Moore County School System consists of twenty-three schools serving over 12,000 students and offering a comprehensive curriculum that includes work force development, programs for special needs and gifted needs as well as arts education. Our schools continue to promote high standards for all and have consistently met or exceeded growth expectations in the state’s “ABC” accountability program. The system is a proud sponsor of the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series bringing outstanding speakers to the community. Many students benefit by attending these lectures and have an opportunity to meet the speakers at the receptions.
The Sandhills Community College is delighted to be the host sponsor of the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series. One of our college’s most important responsibilities is to contribute to the cultural life of our community and the continuing education of the people of our area. The Ruth Pauley Series annually educates, stimulates and entertains people from throughout the Sandhills. It is one of the real joys of living in this area and one of the programs of which our college is the proudest. We hope you enjoy your visit to our campus, to Owens Auditorium, and to one of America’s premiere college lecture series, the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series.
Whenever possible, the Ruth Pauley Board makes arrangements for the speaker to lecture students at one of the public schools or the Sandhills Community College.
